Please plan to join us for the 17th Annual Children's Champion Awards Breakfast on Friday, February 10, 2012!

Priority Children began its Children’s Champion Awards in 1996, recognizing shining examples of people in the community doing good things for children. The awards are designed to recognize and thank individuals, businesses, government agencies and organizations for their tremendous contributions toward making Genesee County the best place to raise children.

Nominations can be made by completing the following form and submitting it by the December 9, 2011 deadline. PLEASE NOTE: Youth nominations are due by NOON on NOVEBMBER 23rd. Youth nominated after November 23rd who are in the 12th grade will be notified of their eligibility to apply for the Margaret Lochman Scholarship within three business days of their nomination. It is beneficial for them to be nominated early. The scholarship deadline is December 16th.

Please make a nomination for one category only. If you'd like to nominate an individual or a group for more than one category, please use a new form.

Individual Nomination Categories: (Select Only One Award Category)

James T. Dover, Jr. Outstanding Senior Award- Any senior adult (age 60+) who goes beyond the call of duty to do something special to help make Genesee County a better community for children.

Roy E. Peterson Caring Adult Award - Any adult (volunteer or employee) who goes beyond the call of duty to do something special to help make Genesee County a better community for children.

Robert E. Weiss Outstanding Youth Award *
- A high school student (grades 9-12) who has done something special to help make Genesee County a better community for children.

Crim Fitness Foundation Healthy Children Award - Any adult who goes beyond the call of duty to promote participatory health and fitness activities which benefit the children of Genesee County.

  *Note: A nomination in the Outstanding Youth category qualifies the student to apply for the Margaret Lochman Scholarship.

Outstanding Business, Organization, Government Agency or Community Initiative that Offers, Supports or Provides: (Select Only One Award Category)

Special Opportunities for Children and Youth
- Any business, organization government agency or community initiative that offers, supports or provides special opportunities for children and youth. This can include, but is not limited to special programming, resources, scholarships, camps and/or other opportunities which would otherwise not be available.

Healthy Start - Any business, organization, government agency or community initiative that offers, supports or provides a healthy start for children five and under. This can include, but is not limited to individual or programmatic support related to health, nutrition, prenatal care, parenting support or special learning opportunities related to young children.

Safe Places to Learn and Play for Children - Any business, organization, government agency or community initiative that offers, supports or provides a safe places to learn and play. This can include, but is not limited to, a physical location, afterschool programming, community programs, sports programs and enrichment programs that allow children to experience a facility that they otherwise may not experience. It can also include businesses and organizations that support or provide, “take-your-children-to work day,” day on the job or internship opportunities.

Opportunities to Develop Life Skills for Youth - Any business, organization, government agency or community initiative that offers youth the opportunity to develop employment skills. This can include, but is not limited to, programs which support positive youth development, skill/vocational training and/or employ youth in meaningful and positive work.

Volunteerism/Service Learning - Any business, organization, government agency or community initiative that offers, supports or provides youth with volunteerism or service learning opportunities. This can include, but is not limited to any program, individual or institution that supports and integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility and strengthen communities. It can also include schools, universities, colleges, places of worship that facilitate alternative spring breaks, organized opportunities for service and facilitates connections to meaningful volunteerism or the business, organization or initiative that supports these efforts. This category also includes employees/employers/volunteers that serve youth.
